What is Botox?

Botox is a prescription treatment that smooths the lines you make when you frown, squint or raise your brows. A tiny amount of purified botulinum toxin type A relaxes the muscle behind each line, and we offer both Botox and Dysport in Vero Beach.
Botox Cosmetic has been FDA-approved for frown lines since 2002. Dosed well, it looks natural: you can still smile and frown, just with softer lines.
Who Botox is for
Botox suits adults who want softer forehead lines, frown lines or crow's feet without surgery or downtime, often starting in their late 20s or 30s. Deep creases at rest or loose skin may need filler or skin tightening as well.
It isn't for you if you're pregnant or breastfeeding, have certain nerve or muscle conditions, or are allergic to any botulinum toxin product.
How Botox is given
Your injector maps how your face moves, then places a few small injections with a very fine needle. It feels like a quick pinch and takes only a few minutes.
Most visits use 20–60 units, and the full result shows at about 2 weeks and lasts 3–4 months.

Botox in Vero Beach is most often used for forehead lines, frown lines and crow’s feet, and for a subtle brow lift, lip flip or slimmer jawline. We also treat heavy sweating of the palms and the soles of the feet. Some of these, like the lip flip, jaw slimming and palm or foot sweating, are off-label uses, so your injector talks you through what to expect at your consult.

Botox & Dysport questions
How much does Botox cost in Vero Beach?
Botox at Vero Beach Medical Spa is $14 per unit and Dysport is $5 per unit. Most people need 20–60 units depending on how many areas they treat, so a Botox visit is usually about $280–$840. Aesthetics Members save 15%.
How many units of Botox will I need?
It depends on the area and how strong your muscles are. The FDA-label doses are a good guide: frown lines 20 units, crow's feet 24 units for both sides, and forehead lines 20 units treated together with 20 units for the frown lines (40 in total). Neck bands usually take 26–36 units. Dysport is dosed differently (about 50 units for frown lines). Your injector may adjust for you, and touch-ups within 2 weeks are free up to 6 units.
Botox or Dysport: which is right for me?
Both are FDA-approved forms of botulinum toxin type A that relax the muscles behind frown lines, forehead lines and crow's feet, with similar results. Dysport spreads slightly more, which can suit larger areas like the forehead, and needs more units; Botox is very precise. Botox Cosmetic is approved for frown lines, crow's feet, forehead lines and neck bands; Dysport for frown lines. Your injector recommends one at your consult.
How long does Botox last, and when will I see results?
You'll notice a change within a few days and see the full result at about 2 weeks. It usually lasts 3–4 months, and some people find it lasts longer after a few regular treatments.
How do I prepare, and what about aftercare?
Before: avoid alcohol for 24 hours; if your doctor agrees, pause fish oil, vitamin E, ibuprofen and aspirin for a few days to reduce bruising; come with clean skin, no makeup. After: stay upright for 4 hours, don't rub or massage the area, and skip workouts, saunas and facials for 24 hours. Call us at (772) 907-5848 if you notice drooping or anything unusual.
Is Botox safe?
Botox Cosmetic has been FDA-approved for frown lines since 2002 and is one of the most studied cosmetic treatments. Side effects are usually mild (redness, small bruises, headache). Like all botulinum toxins, it carries an FDA warning: rarely, the effect can spread beyond the treated area. Get medical help right away (call 911) if you have trouble swallowing, breathing or speaking after treatment. It isn't for you if you're pregnant or breastfeeding, have certain nerve or muscle conditions, are allergic to any botulinum toxin product or have an infection at the injection site (and Dysport isn't for people allergic to cow's milk protein). We go through your health history at the consult.
