What should I expect with lip filler?
Most lip treatments use 0.5–1 syringe of soft hyaluronic acid filler. We start conservatively to build shape and hydration, and you can always add more at a follow-up. Swelling is normal for 2–3 days and the final shape settles in about 2 weeks. Hyaluronic acid fillers can usually be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase if needed (a common, off-label use); Radiesse and Sculptra can't be dissolved.
How do I prepare, and what about aftercare?
Before: avoid alcohol and, if your doctor agrees, blood thinners like fish oil, ibuprofen and aspirin for a few days; reschedule if you have a cold sore (lips), and if you get them often, tell us when you book so we can call in a preventive prescription; no dental work 2 weeks before or after. After: ice gently, avoid strenuous exercise, heat, saunas and alcohol for 24–48 hours, and sleep on your back the first night.
